Mercedeh Mirshamsi is a New York based visual artist whose work explores a wide spectrum of the human condition within the context of the 'everydayness' of life. Mercedeh was born in Tehran Iran and grew up in Europe and United States. From a very early age she was exposed to cultures, customs and ways of life from all over the world which naturally became the dominating theme behind her photographs.
In the recent years Mercedeh particularly focused on documenting the lives of indigenous societies that live outside of the modernity of the Western World. She aims at capturing the fleeting moments of their lives and the raw reactions to their surroundings. Mercedeh has photographed the Oglala Lakota Sioux Nation, the Massai tribe of Kenya and the people of Phulping Kati of Nepal.
